I love Southern weddings. There’s nothing like it. The food is amazing and plentiful, the guys are gentlemen, and the women are gorgeous. (I was fortunate enough to marry a Alabamian…)

Last weekend I had the pleasure of filming the wedding of John and Lyndsey in Montgomery Alabama. The wedding was held in the beautiful First Baptist Church of Montgomery with the reception held at a ultra chic loft gallery known as “129 Coosa”.

The wedding was priceless and I am fortunate to have been apart of it!

Here are four or five that I like so far…

I’ll never forget the sound of the silence the night my Dad left me. It was a cold night south of Smith Lake and I was left in the wild with a rifle and a compass to navigate back to camp. To my dad, this was an initiation of sorts. To me, this was scariest moment of my life. As his flashlight dimmed into the distance I remember hearing leaves rustle under my feet. And then before long, there was nothing. No wind, no dimming flashlight, no warmth, no direction; even the stars seemed to hide from me that night.

To this day the silence of that night haunts me. What if God left us in the dark to fend for ourselves? What if after Adam sinned God simply abandoned us in the frightening silence of our sin without a savior?

Today I was listening to one of my favorite Christian artists, Bethany Dillon. In her song “You Are On Our Side” she rejoices in the fact that God didn’t leave us alone. When He was fully justified by leaving us in the “woods” to die for our sins He chose to send His one and only Son to become sin on our behalf that we might be the righteousness of God.

This Christmas morning I rejoice that God has given us more than a compass. In the fullness of time He gave the very Word and blood of His one and only Son that whosoever would believe in Him would find everlasting life. In the frightening “woods” we call our life, God has provided a light and a way out.

Rejoice, we have been rescued!

“You Are On Our Side”
The orphan clings to Your hand
Singing the song of how he was found
The widow rejoices
For her oppressors are silenced now

You sit at the table with the wounded and the poor
You laugh and share stories with the thief and the whore
When You could just be silent and leave us here to die
Still, You sent Your Son for us
You are on our side

The runaway falls at Your feet
You are what he has searched for
The rich man is broken
When he stands beneath a sky full of stars

You sit at the table with the wounded and the poor
You laugh and share stories with the thief and the whore
When You could just be silent and leave us here to die
Still, You sent Your Son for us
You are on our side

You sit at the table with the wounded and the poor
You laugh and share stories with the thief and the whore
When You could just be silent and leave us here to die
Still, You sent Your Son for us
You are on our side

Still, You sent Your Son for us
You are on our side

Emily and Scott!

Yesterday was so much fun. At 3 o’ clock I met with one of my favorite couples, Emily and Scott in downtown Montgomery, AL. Though the wind was blowing 30+ MPH, they looked great and we had a blast!

Thanks for letting me hang out with you guys! Can’t wait to see you soon!

Today I did three sessions back in Alabama, the last of those being the below baby portraits. This little gem is my cousin’s daughter (anyone know what that makes her? Second cousin? Niece?). Anyway, she was amazing and I am very pleased with her pictures.

Thanks for letting me hang out with you guys!

Today I did a few portraits in Alabama with a young man named Payton. This guy laughed and smiled more than just about anyone I have ever been around. I was going for a very “aged” film look.

I love how they turned out. Thanks Payton!

Jack Handey. Jim Carey. Mitch Hedburg. Tina Fey. They are all hilarious. But none of them come close to the comedic genius of Paul and Nicole. I’ll never forget the day I met them. They contacted the office through our website and set up a meeting to meet with me. Within seconds of buying their coffee I was in tears laughing at their antics. The way they play off of each others sarcasm reminds me of Tina Fey and Jimmy Falon’s News Report. Big Laughs. This weekend I finally go shoot their wedding here in Louisville, KY. Nicole was breathtaking as usually and Paul and his boys were so funny. For this wedding I would like to give two awards. First, I would like to award Paul’s Best Man for the Best Best Man award of 2008. I saw him come through for Paul in Nicole about 10 times. Seriously, I was really impressed how on top of things he was. Congrats, best man! NOTE: If you are getting married, find a best man or gal that will help you like this guy did! Without a doubt he took a load of stress of these guys…awesome. My next award goes to Nicole for being the Best Bridal Portrait Model of 2008. Seriously Nicole, not only were you stunning, you were so easy going and fun to shoot. Thanks for making it fun for us!
